Sponsor

Person or entity taking responsibility for a clinical trial.

The sponsor initiates, manages, and funds a clinical trial. Holds legal and regulatory responsibility. May delegate tasks to a CRO but never the ultimate responsibility. In investigator-initiated trials, the investigator can act as sponsor.
